The boring page

Disclosure & privacy

How this site makes money, what we measure, and the line we won't cross. Short, because there isn't much to it.

Money

Where any of it comes from — currently, nowhere

As of right now: nobody pays us anything

We are not sponsored by any company, brand, retailer or channel.

We receive no money, no commission, no affiliate revenue, no kickback and no free gear from any product, shop, tool or service mentioned anywhere on this site. Nobody has asked us to say anything, and nobody has paid us to say anything.

Everything recommended here is recommended because it is on this boat, or because it is work we depend on.

If that ever changes, we will disclose it. Not in a footer, not in the small print — on the page it affects, in the same paragraph as the recommendation, saying exactly what the arrangement is. That is a promise and you can hold us to it.

What we might earn from, eventually

For completeness, the two things that could ever pay us anything are our own: the merch store and the YouTube channel. Neither is sponsorship by anybody else, and both are obviously ours.

If we ever add affiliate links to gear, they will be labelled as affiliate links where they appear. Today there are none.

Two rules we're holding ourselves to

What we measure

Not much, and not about you specifically

We use Cloudflare Web Analytics. It tells us how many people visited, which pages they read, and roughly where in the world they came from.

It uses no cookies, it does not track individual visitors, it does not follow you to other sites, and it does not build a profile of you. There is no Google Analytics here, no Facebook pixel, and no advertising network.

We don't run ads, we don't collect email addresses, and we don't have accounts or logins to leak.

Accuracy, and telling us we're wrong

Please do

Everything technical on this site is one boat's experience, written down honestly. Some of it will be wrong.

Where something is measured, we say so. Where something is inferred rather than proven, we say that too. When we get something wrong and find out, we correct it on the page rather than quietly deleting it — the radar and sonar write-up has a corrections section for exactly that reason.

If you spot a mistake, or you know better, we'd genuinely rather hear it. Come and say so.

And the obvious one

Say it plainly

Nothing on this site is navigational advice. Nothing here is a substitute for proper charts, a working depth sounder, a qualified installer, or your own judgement. Battery and electrical work carries real risk of fire and injury. Anything involving an engine can hurt you.

We're two people figuring out a boat and writing down what we learn. Treat it as that.
